On-Ice Details
The OHA High Performance program is designed to attract the elite players in Junior hockey with the passion and desire to take their game beyond their current level. Players selected for this program will participate with and against athletes from across Ontario in search of education and preparation to take advantage of opportunities in hockey down the road. Players will take part in a high tempo team practice on Friday afternoon following check in, which will be run by a CHL coach or assistant. On Saturday morning players will be tested on Agility, Puck Control, Skating Sprints, Fastest Lap and Goaltender/Player Challenges. A tournament will begin on Saturday afternoon with the finals finishing on Sunday afternoon. Each team will play 4 games over the weekend and compete for the OHAHP Cup.
Off-ice Training
Players looking to increase performance on the ice recognize how crucial the off-season is and what it can mean for their careers. As part of the program, players will learn how they can properly prepare during the pre-season, post-season and in-season stages. Elite players prepare with a purpose off the ice, set goals and understand the essence of smart training. The OHAHP will run you through a brief training session, with more information to follow during the seminar dedicated to educating you on proper off-ice preparation.
Testing Details
All players will go through fitness testing Friday afternoon. Players will be tested on:
Push-ups (upper body strength)
Sit-ups (core strength)
Standing Broad Jump (let power)
Sprints (acceleration/speed)
Distance Run (cardiovascular endurance)
PLEASE NOTE: Results will be calculated and each player will receive their results compared to their peers. These will also be shared with any scouts, recruiters or other program personnel in attendance.
Seminars with Industry Experts
Peak performance requires proper preparation. More elite athletes serious about improving their game and understanding what it takes to get to the next level mentally prepare. Whether it is through proven techniques utilizing imagery or positive reinforcement, top players understand being mentally prepared and focused increases their chances of success. Furthermore, learning the facts and avoiding myths help players and their families to make educated decisions. Parents are STRONGLY encouraged to attend each seminar, as it will better prepare you to properly support your son. It will also arm your family with information to better make decisions based on information provided by industry experts attending the OHAHP. Come out and learn the facts on hockey at the next level.
Players and parents will be exposed to great hockey topics delivered by expert keynote speakers throughout the weekend. Topics include; Sports Psychology, Hockey Specific Training, Sports Nutrition, Opportunities in Junior Hockey, OHL, CIS, NCAA, professional and minor professional hockey. Presenting the topics will be industry experts such as player agents, coaches, recruiters and other staff at the levels of hockey previously mentioned. The OHA High Performance Program attracts hockey figureheads who enjoy giving back to the game and to the OHA for providing them with an opportunity to play. The seminars will provide facts, draw from experiences and provide insight into the many avenues and opportunities that the game presents from knowledgeable hockey minds who will also be available for your questions all weekend long.
