Hawks Double Ironmen, Assured No Lower Than 3rd
The Walkerton Hawks completed their 3 game weekend sweep by beating the Wingham Ironmen 6-3. The Hawks jumped out to the early lead again and Wingham was over matched in all areas of the game. All 3 Ironmen goals went in off Hawks players. Scoring for the Hawks were Mike Roelofsen(3), Ryan Amyot, Trevor Harper and Tyler Kuntz. Scoring for Wingham was Brett Nichol, AJ Nichol and Joel Riley. Clayton Fritsch picked up the win making 33 saves, while Ryan Maurice stopped 26 of 32 shots and Jamael Jacklin stopped 2 shots in 1:10. Over the 3 game weekend Hawks forward Mike Roelofsen was on a tear, scoring 8 times and adding 4 assists. Line mate Ryan Amyot tried to not be out done and had 3 goals and 6 assists. With the win the Hawks are guaranteed to finish no lower than 3rd, giving them home ice in their 1st playoff series. The Hawks are back in action next Friday when the Mount Forest Patriots pay a visit to the Hawks Nest, game time 8:30pm.
Hawks Keep Moving Forward
The Hawks have done it again, this time a little less. The Hawks handed the Goderich Sailors a 7-1 loss, but in the meantime lost 2 more players to suspensions. No bench clearing this time, just basically a line brawl. It all happened about the same time as Friday night, 10:22 left in the 3rd. Clayton Fritsch was playing the puck behind the net, a Goderich player ran into him and Clayton pushed him, Tyler Dorscht of Goderich decided to hit Fritsch from behind and all players on the ice grabbed an opponent. After the dust settled, Walkerton had 3 guys kicked out for fighting, 2 of which were suspended due to 2nd and 3rd fight same stoppage. Dorscht got a Major for Checking From Behind, as well as 2nd fight same stoppage, which the 2 penalties carry a 4 game suspension. As for the game itself, scoring for the Hawks were Mike Roelofsen(3), Keegan Tolton, Cory Andrews, Tyler Kuntz and Ryan Amyot. Scoring for Goderich was Ben Sloetjes. Clayton Fritsch picked up the win, while Cory Gascho took the loss. Shots on goal weren't recorded again.
Hawks Start New Streak With Impressive Win
The Hawks started a new winning streak by handing the Wingham Ironmen a 10-4 loss. The Hawks came in looking to avenge their loss to the Bulldogs the weekend before and boy did they ever. The Hawks built up a 5-0 lead in the first to only have Wingham nibble away at it. The Ironmen found themselves down 6-3 after 2 periods. In the 3rd there was a small scuffle in front of the Hawks net, as the officials took the players to the box, they continued to argue and push each other. I don't know who or why it all started, but next thing you know there were fights all over the place. As the ref saw it, Andy Cline of Wingham instigated the whole situation. Out of this scuffle came some suspensions, Luke Bester and Andrew Hetherington will be suspended the remainder of the weekend. Dan Murray of Wingham will be gone for a minimum of 5 games, as he received an Aggressor and 2 Fighting Majors after the original Fight. When all was said and done the Hawks had a PP. The PP was clicking all night as the Hawks scored 4 on the PP. Scoring for the Hawks were Todd Cooper(2), Mike Roelofsen(2), Matt White, Curtis Johnston, Scott Amyot, Ryan Amyot, Trevor Smith and Tyler Kuntz. Scoring for the Ironmen were Jordan Doig, Adam Hunsberger, Dan Murray and Adam Corbett. Trevor Vanwyck picked up the win making 23 saves. Ryan Maurice took the loss giving up all 10 goals on 42 shots.
