Wingham Ironmen

Ironmen Down Barons 5-1 in Home Opener

Kellum picks up 4 points in Ironmen debut.

The 'New Era' Ironmen kicked off Friday night in Wingham. Critics and fans agreed that the Ironmen were going to be the under-dogs this season...

Even though the season is still very young, the Ironmen put a silence on those critics as they handed the Hanover Barons 5-1 set back. Both rookies and vets were in on the scoring, but it was a rookie Tyler Kellum who elevated the game as he was in on four of the five goals.

Tim Posthumus opened the scoring for the Ironmen with the lone helper going to the Kellum. The score was notched at one each after the first period.

Whatever the coaching staff said between the first and second period... worked...

The rest of the game belonged to the Ironmen as they scored three goals in the second period to take a commanding 4-1 lead in to the third period. Rookie defense Cody Subject notched the lone goal in the third period for the Ironmen.

Scoring Summary for the Ironmen:

Tim Posthumus from Tyler Kellum
Andrew Turton from Brett Nichol and Tyler Kellum
Tyler Kellum from Jordan Doig and Blake Alton
Nic Carter from Tyler Kellum and Tyler deVos
Cody Subject from Brandon Coghlin and Wade Stephenson

The Ironmen aren't back in action until next Friday as they host the Mount Forest Patriots.
Game time is 8PM.

The Ironmen announced the Captain and Alternates prior to the game. Wearing the 'C' this season for the Ironmen is none other Tyler deVos. Jordan Doig, Brett Nichol and Andrew Turton will sport the 'A'.

Interesting fact... The number 4 has had either an 'A' or a 'C' on the chest in the past 6 seasons. Jamie Chester wore the 'A' for three seasons and most recently, Joel Riley wore both the 'A' and 'C' while wearing the jersey.
