The Hagersville Hawks dropped a pair of weekend games to the Delhi Travellers and Burford Bulldogs. The Hawks hosted Delhi on Saturday night after the Hamilton Bulldog-Rochester Americans game. A good sized crowd remained on hand to see a close fought battle between the Hawks and Delhi. Hagersville led after twenty minutes on a goal by Jesse Sault with eleven seconds remaining in the opening period. Jim Greenfield gave Hagersville a 2-0 lead at 9:47 of the second period. Delhi responded with three goals in a three minute span to take a 3-2 lead. Delhi took a two goal lead eight minutes into the third period. David Watson cut the lead to 4-3 with a power play goal with 4:02 remaining in the third period. Brad Williams tied the game at four with 2:23 remaining. As the clock winding down and overtime looming, Delhi scored to take a 5-4 win. Eric Wobbes was in goal and made 46 saves for the Hawks. Greenfield added a pair of assists for a three point night. Jay Pepper, Andrew Jamieson, Darren Drehmer, Kevin Smelser, Williams and Watson each picked up assists.
On Sunday night, the Hawks traveled to Burford and dropped a 6-5 overtime decision. The Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Brad Williams and Jesse Sault. David Watson put the Hawks up 3-0 before seeing the Bulldogs charge back with three goals over a three minute span. Rick Schipper gave Hagersville 4-3 lead heading into the third with a power-play goal late in the second period. After Burford tied the game early in the third, Prosper Mwenga gave the Hawks another lead with Hagersville’s second power play goal of the night. Burford tied the game with thirteen minutes to play and eventually won the game with 2:12 remaining in overtime. Eric Wobbes stopped 37 shots for Hagersville. Andrew Jamieson picked up two assists with singles going to Jesse Sommers, Darren Kraay, Jay Pepper, Jim Greenfield, Sault and Mwenga.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday night at home against the Wellesley Applejacks and head to St George on Sunday night to face the Duke’s. Game time for each night is 7:30pm.
