The Hagersville Hawks split a pair of games this week to stay at .500 in the young 2007 season. On Thursday night the Hawks traveled to Ayr to face the Centennials and dropped a hard fought 3-2 decision. Goals by Rick Schipper and Darren Drehemer in the first period gave the Hawks a 2-1 lead. Ayr responded with a pair of second period goals to take a 3-2 lead into the third period. The Hawks pressured the Cents in the third period but were unable to beat Cam Jager for the tying goal. James Kerst was strong in goal for the Hawks despite the loosing out come. Prosper Mwenga and Charles Armstrong picked up assists for the Hawks.
On Saturday night, the Hawks hosted the division leading Burford Bulldogs. The Hawks jumped out to a fast start and grabbed a 3-0 lead in the opening twenty minutes on a pair of goals by Cody Jamieson and a single goal by Al Doroszkiewicz. The Bulldogs cut the lead to 3-1 on a power play goal midway through the second period but Jamieson added his third of the night with less than a minute to play in the second to restore the three goal lead. Burford pressured the Hawks for most of the third period and scored a pair of power play goals but the Hawks were able to hold on to the one goal lead to pick up the win. Eric Wobbes was outstanding in goal stopping 50 of 53 shots he faced. Jim Greenfield, Scott DeGraaf, David Watson, Rick Schipper and Chancy Johnson picked up assists for the Hawks.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday night as they host the St George Dukes. Game time is 7:30pm. Hagersville will then travel to Port Dover on Sunday afternoon for a 2pm face-off against the Sailors.
