The Hagersville Hawks improved to 5-3-1 with a pair of wins over the weekend. The Hawks opened at home Saturday night against the St George Dukes and came away with a 4-3 shoot out win. Rick Schipper scored a pair of goals to lead the offence and Jesse Sommers scored a short handed goal with 44 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. With neither team scoring in the five minute overtime, it was off to a shoot out. In the shoot out, both Cody Johnson and Jesse Sommers scored and Eric Wobbes stopped both shots he faced to give the Hawks the extra point. Wobbes made 37 saves on the night for the Hawks. Evan Vansickle picked up two assists with singles going to Brad Williams, Johnson and David Watson. Hagersville trailed 2-1 after the first and 3-2 after forty minutes.

On Sunday afternoon Hagersville traveled down highway 6 to Port Dover for an afternoon match up against the Sailors. The Hawks came from behind twice in the second period and skated away with a 6-3 win. Cody Jamieson continued his strong start to the season by scoring three goals and adding an assist. Brad Williams, David Watson and Braden Sullivan added singles for the Hawks. The Hawks broke open a 2-2 tie with a pair of goals in the first less than two minutes apart in the third period. Darren Kraay picked up three assists; Jesse Sault added a pair, while Jim Greenfield, Josh Richert, Jesse Sommers and Johnson added singles. James Kerst picked up the win stopping 33 of 36 shots he faced.

The Hawks moved into fourth place with the four weekend points and sit one point behind the third place Tavistock Braves with a game in hand. The Hawks will be tested this coming week as they visit the Delhi Travellers on Friday night and host the Tavistock Braves on Saturday night. Game times are 7:30pm.
