Braves Lose in OT Saturday, Win at Home Sunday

By Danny Roth

The Tavistock Braves finished off their regular season on the weekend.

After winning at home Friday night, they travelled to St. George to take on the Dukes.  St. George scored first early in the opening frame, on a quick shot off the face off that beat goaltender Billy Whaling.  With one minute remaining in the first Kyle Gunn scored a power play goal that deflected off him on a Jeff Roes shot.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the second Marcus Yantzi scored on the power play with Josh Nafziger and Gunn picking up assists.  That would do it for the scoring in the period.

Leading by one Yantzi scored his second of the game on another power play on a nice pass from Gunn.  St. George fought back in the third with 2 power play goals of their own to tie the game at 3-3.

In overtime with just over 2 minutes remaing St. George once again on the power play scored the winner to make the final 4-3 St. George.

Tavistock did not have a whole lot of time to recover from the loss, when Delhi came into town for a 2pm Sunday afternoon start.

Travis Parkin got Tavistock on the board first on a power play goal from Josh O'Leary and Roes.  Delhi answered back just 30 seconds later to make it a 1-1 tie.  Roes put the Braves back into the lead late in the period with Kyle Alyea and Braedan Marcaccio picking up assists.

In the second Marcus Yantzi kept his goal scoring streak alive scoring from Kellen Fifield and Adam Renkema.

The Braves lead 3-1 heading into the third when Roes picked up his second of the day from Yantzi and Gunn.  Billy Whaling was solid in net once again and was able to hold off Delhi for a 4-1 Braves win.

Tavistock will now play Hagersville in the first round of the playoffs.
