The Penetanguishene Kings suffered its first loss of the 2007/2008 Georgian Bay Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey League season by a score of 2-0 against the Alliston Hornets on Sunday night.

Alliston's Kurtis Brossard scored both Hornet goals, giving teammate Troy Dowswell the shutout.

Although Alliston accumulated nine penalties, and Pentanguishene accumulated eight infractions, the Kings could not equalize on its special teams.

"We did play a good game against a strong team," said Kings coach Wesley Parent.

He said Alliston's veteran roster attributed to keeping Penetanguishene off the scoreboard.

"They didn't lose many players from last year. They have a very strong team with all kinds of depth."

He said Alliston did a great job to keep the Kings outside their zone.

"Even when we got into the offensive zone when we were on even strength, Alliston did a great job of just keeping us to the outside," the coach said. "We never got any sort of opportunities in the middle of the ice. We did have some pressure in their zone.

"They did a really good job of just keeping us to the outside."

On Friday Sept. 28 the Kings were down 2-0 before the 10 minute mark of the first period, but rallied back to beat the Fergus Devils 5-3. Scoring for the Kings were Ryan Giesler, Aaron Duval, Rick, Greenslade, Greg Cerilli and Kelly Loughran.

Scoring for the Devils were Ben Wood, Ryley Scott and Ryan Deboer.

Penetanguishene out shot Fergus 38-27 and equalized two powerplay goals.

The Kings fell into penalty trouble having accumulated 34 minutes on nine infractions compared to the Devils 16 minutes on eight infractions.

Rookie goaltender Corey Moore earned his first junior hockey league win.

"It was good to see him play well," Parent said of his goaltender.

Next for the Kings is a game in Stayner against the Siskins tomorrow night.

"It's their home opener - they're going to be pretty fired up for it. If we just go in there and play a composed game keep things as simple as possible not trying to do too much I thing we should be fine," Parent said.

On Friday night, the Kings will host Erin Shamrocks at the Penetanguishene Memorial Community Centre at 8:30 p.m.

Also at Friday night's game, fans with their admission ticket, will get the chance to shoot for a turkey.
