Ryan Viselli: 1 goal, 2 assists
Elmira 2 at Tecumseh 6
The Tecumseh Chiefs scored six unanswered goals -- including four on the power play -- en route to a 6-3 win over the Elmira Sugar Kings in the third game of the GOJHL Sutherland Cup round-robin series Wednesday in front of 723 fans at Tecumseh Arena.
At 2-0, the Chiefs now sit atop the round-robin standings. The Sugar Kings are next at 1-1 followed by the 0-2 Thorold Blackhawks.
Since losing the first game of the WOHL final, the Chiefs have now won six straight games.
With three goals in the first period, and three more in the second, the Chiefs built a commanding 6-0 lead before a shorthanded goal from Jeff Zippel put Elmira on the board. The Sugar Kings scored the lone goal of the third period.
Six different players scored for Tecumseh. Ryan Viselli (right) led the Chiefs attack with a goal and two assists, while defenseman Matt Paltridge had three assists. In their two round-robin games, the Chiefs' 10 goals have been scored by nine different players.
Chiefs netminder Jonathan Hunter stopped 24 of 26 shots faced for the win. Dan Morrison was far busier in the Sugar Kings net, allowing six goals on 49 shots, including 24 shots faced in the second period alone.
In their two round-robin games, the Chiefs have had a total of 102 shots on goal, while the Sugar Kings have surrendered 95 shots in their two games.
The Chiefs went four for nine on the power play while the Sugar Kings were one for nine with the man advantage.
The next game in the double round-robin series is Friday when the Sugar Kings travel to Thorold to face the Blackhawks. A win by Elmira would eliminate Thorold and clinch berths in the Sutherland Cup final for both the Sugar Kings and the Chiefs, with only home-ice advantage in the best-of seven series to be determined.
A win by Thorold over Elmira on Friday would give those two teams identical 1-2 records. Tecumseh would then have to wait until Saturday when they travel to Elmira where a Chiefs win would clinch a finals berth.
